Aliens Ashore and The Bloody Five @ The Cave – May 1, 2014

Aliens Ashore and The Bloody Five at the opening night of The Cave at Lee’s Palace, on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

“The Cave” is actually The Dance Cave, the alternative dance club which is right above Lee’s Palace. This was the first night of a new concept that will see live bands play the space during mid week and in early evenings. It’s so new that they were still putting up a stage light mere minutes before the first band was set to go on. Even the door staff seemed a bit confused when I arrived and told them I was there for the concert upstairs. It must not have been promoted very well, because there wasn’t a large turnout, even though there was no cover charge for the inaugural show. Hopefully, it’ll pick up as it goes along because it’s a pretty decent venue. (Just add a few more stage lights and the photographers will be overjoyed, especially me).

NOTES:
-Chatted with the lead singer of The Bloody Five before the show. Nice guy.
-I could have swapped out my 24-70 2.8 lens for the 50mm 1.8 to get a sorely needed extra stop of light, but laziness and the versatility & reliability of the former kept me from doing so.
-Poor lighting at most of the bars/venues I shoot at comes with the territory. I’ll try to keep the complaining to a minimum from now on. 🙂
-I rushed off directly after the show to get to the Bovine Sex Club to see Olde and The Horned perform.
