Amnesia Rockfest (Day One) @ Montebello, Quebec – June 19, 2015

This past weekend, I hopped on a bus and travelled to Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec (aka in the middle of nowhere), to shoot my first ever out-of-province music festival. I was on assignment for A Music Blog, Yea? I arrived on the 18th and got caught in a torrential downpour before I could even set up my tent. Spent a miserable night shivering and trying to fall asleep in wet clothes. Luckily, the next few days were full of sunshine.

The first full day of the festival was on Friday the 19th. I was horrified to find out that my media pass did not grant me access to the photo pit. Had I known that, I probably wouldn’t have accepted the assignment. Anyway, that meant I had to shoot from the crowd, which wasn’t always easy. I got jostled violently quite a few times and didn’t always have the best angle or position. Still, in the end, I got the shots I needed to get.

Overall, it was a memorable weekend and an experience I won’t soon forget. I shot about a dozen bands on each of the two days. Here’s a sampling below of Day One. You can see the full set of pictures right here.

Of Monsters and Men, Highasakite @ Massey Hall – May 4, 2015

Icelandic folk-pop band Of Monsters and Men played Massey Hall on Monday, May 4. Opening the show was Norwegian indie-pop band Highasakite. This was my first time shooting at Massey Hall. It’s a regal, 100+ year-old venue, but being relegated to the side aisle (which was a million miles away from the stage) made it tough to get any standout shots, even with a 70-200mm lens and a monopod for extra stability. Still, it was good to work a new venue, and I do think I got some decent photos of each band. I shot this on assignment for A Music Blog Yea? You can see the full set of pictures (coupled with a nice review) right here.

Hamilton Leithauser, RLMDL @ The Drake Underground – January 20, 2015

I photographed Hamilton Leithauser at The Drake Underground on Tuesday, January 20. The opening act was electronic / dream pop trio RLMDL. The Drake is a small venue, but it was packed solid. Much of the stage was shrouded in darkness, which made it really hard to get much in the way of decent results. I shot this on assignment for A Music Blog, Yea? You can see the full set of pictures right here.
