Four Year Strong, Comeback Kid, Expire, Handguns, Heart to Heart @ The Opera House – January 8, 2015

I photographed Four Year Strong, Comeback Kid, Expire, Handguns, and Heart to Heart at The Opera House on Thursday, January 8. Things were moving along swimmingly until Expire hit the stage and the madness and chaos exploded all around me. I had to battle stage divers, moshers, and crowd surfers while trying to get the shots I needed. I was legitimately concerned for my safety. But I survived. I survived the madhouse! Shot on assignment for A Music Blog, Yea? Check out the full set of pictures right here.

Opeth, In Flames, Red Fang @ Kool Haus – December 21, 2014

Because there was such a huge line-up for the Opeth / In Flames show at the Kool Haus on December 21st, Oregon-based rockers Red Fang were already well into their second song by the time I made it into the photo pit for their opening set.

Swedish metal band In Flames were up second and they were hands down the highlight of the night, both performance-wise and picture-wise. Swedish prog rock / metal band Opeth only had a 7-song setlist, which meant the handful of photographers in the pit only had two songs to work with, which I quite suddenly found out about when a security person tapped me on the shoulder and told me it was time to go.

Lemuria, Prince, Junior Battles @ The Garrison – December 17, 2014

I try to avoid shooting at venues with horrible lighting. Sometimes, it just can’t be helped. For example, Lemuria, a punk/rock/pop trio from Buffalo, was scheduled to play Adelaide Hall December 17. I’ve never been to this particular venue, but from what I’ve seen in pictures, it looks like a decent space. So, having previously shot Lemuria at Riot Fest, I requested to photograph the show for one of the blogs I do assignments for – in this case, A Music Blog, Yea? (AMBY). But some unforeseen mishap at Adelaide Hall (electrical problems? water damage?) caused the venue to be changed to The Garrison.

I’ve been to The Garrison a handful of times, and the pink/purple lighting always makes it difficult to get clear, crisp images. It’s pretty much a nightmare, actually. But I guess these are the conditions you face as a music photographer. So anyway, I shot Lemuria, as well as the two openers – Prince (no, not that one), and Junior Battles. I’ll be honest – I’m not crazy about a lot of the shots, but there were some that turned out okay. Check out the full set of pics right here.
